The Kabeljous Nature Reserve, located on 6 acres just outside Jeffrey’s Bay, is every nature lover’s dream. Here you can surrender to nature and silence. With only your binoculars, bird book, water and a snack.
There is a hiking trail to suit everyone. This varies from 500m to 8km.
The reserve boasts beautiful dune thickets, forests, bushveld and wetlands. The reserve has a large variety of vegetation, for example renosterveld, milk weed, heuningbosveld and dune plants.
The reserve has also more than 130 different bird species: fish eagle, falcon, black oyster catcher, sea swallow, water thick-knee and seagull. Dedicated bird watchers have recently come upon the green krombek strandloper near the river – a unique fund.
Experts came from far to capture this unique bird on camera.
You may be lucky enough to see bushbuck, duiker, bush pig, grysbok, caracal and mongoose on route.
One of the Slide-Slide Trail, the Endurade JBay Trail Run was held.
Exploring the Kabeljous River Nature Reserve is the ideal remedy for those needing a break from city life, and for young and old visiting Jeffrey’s to spend a glorious summer’s day.
